What an absolutely fabulous time I had at The Cake Awards!

I mean, what’s not to love? An awards ceremony celebrating cake……er…yes please!!

So, lets start at the beginning….those of you that follow me on twitter and/or facebook, may know that I sent a ‘shout out’ asking for recommendations of where I could get a beautiful tea dress from. I got lots of great recommendations, but one website really stood out for me and that was Lady V London. I actually wanted to buy nearly every dress on their site, but I just ordered one, and here it is: (apologies for the naff ‘selfie’)

I LOVE it and it seems quite a few other people did too, as I had lots of compliments! In fact the gorgeous Leeanne Cooper, editor of Making Cakes and Bakes Magazine has ordered 3 Lady V dresses today because she liked mine so much!!

So with my beautiful dress on, my hair done, my makeup cemented on to my face, I set off to the Cake Awards at the Park Lane Hotel (I was meeting my date there…only Mr P…no one exciting! 😉 )

We were greeted in the reception by trays of fizz (I chose a Kir Royale) and straight away we started talking to some of the other lovely people there. Everyone was so warm and genuine and just happy to be in a stunning hotel, celebrating cake!

I was lucky enough to get to have a chat with the delightful Eric Lanlard, and even cheekily asked him for a picture (I was a little bit excited as you can see from my face!)

Soon we were called in for afternoon tea and boy what an afternoon tea it was!

Delicious sandwiches, cakes and scones, with the scrummiest jams and the most unbelievable tasting orange and passion fruit curd….yum yum!!!! All washed down with your personal choice of tea (I chose hibiscus.)

My table-mates for the afternoon were Leanne Cooper editor of Making Cakes and Bakes Magazine, Vhari Russell – The Food Marketing Expert, Julie Askew editor of Cake Craft & Decoration, Theresa from The Fab Times and Rachel from UBM Awards. It was such a nice table, conversation flowed, nobody tried to steal/share from the cake stand that was in front of me, so we got on just fine!! 😉 Actually I’m lying, Mr P did share my cake stand and the brilliant thing was that you would take a scone or cake, and a lovely waiter would replace it with another one! It was basically a magical refillable cake stand! Sort of…

The awards themselves then started.

Presented by the wonderful Will Torrent the awards really highlighted some incredibly talented bakers, patissiers and companies. It was The Bakery Dunbar that stood out for me. Having watched them reach the final of Britain’s Best Bakery, I was so happy to see Head Patissier Ross Baxter pick up two awards – including Cake of the Year!

The full list of winners are here. And interestingly there is a ‘Bake At Home’ category that I am very keen on entering next year!

A huge thanks to Rachel from UBM Awards for inviting me and to CEO of UBM Awards Caroline Jackson Levy and Food Industry Expert Jane Milton for organising such a wonderful afternoon! Same time next year?
