Birthdays, Book Launch & Ireland
Posted on September 7, 2015
Hello!
It’s been a mammoth week or so for me here full of lots of lovely things – birthdays, dinners out, travelling to Ireland & an exciting book launch!
For my mum’s birthday I held a surprise birthday brunch at my house and my mum had a brilliant time celebrating with all of her grandchildren.
My mum has not been in the best health over the past few years and so we are all really grateful to celebrate with her, and how good does she look?
In the evening of mum’s birthday we went to have dinner at Theo Randell at the Intercontinental.
My dad had arranged a special menu for the occasion and every dish was presented beautifully and tasted fresh and delicious – especially my perfectly cooked sea bream:
The family really enjoyed the evening (and the wine was really lovely too!!)
Oh and the sinks in the toilets are incredible…
Please tell me I’m not the only person who takes pictures of ‘powder rooms’? 😉 Look at the picture with the tap on. The effect is so so clever!
After then we were off to a Dublin for Dropboxegen (Dropbox Europe’s Summer Party!)
We stayed in the most incredible hotel ever – The K Club – and I really didn’t want to leave:
Big thanks to Dropbox for putting on such a brilliant event. The kids got to do lots of fun things, we all ate lots and the rain (mostly) stayed away!
It was a flying visit though because I had to get back to host a very special friend’s special birthday tea – which included a sweetie table (because she loves sweets!)
And lots and lots of baked goodies, including my rocky road & triple chocolate fudgy brownies:
That evening was dinner at Granger & Co in Clerkenwell, which has been on my ‘must try’ list for a while. Slight criticism (and this may be showing my age), but it was so dark in there, and the menu font was so small that I had difficulty reading what was available, so my friend ordered for us! Everything she picked was utterly incredible, but the courgette chips were so moreish I could have eaten plates and plates of them!
The following day was my mum’s surprise party for all of her friends at The Haven in Whetstone. My parents love a party and love to celebrate and this was definitely the best party so far! Delicious food, hilarious speeches, and even a spot of singing from me!
Then on Bank Holiday Monday I spent the entire day in my pyjamas (no picture of this!) 🙂
And so the kids went back to school (I love them, but YAY!!) and on Thursday I had the pleasure of being invited to the launch of ‘Bake It Great‘, the new recipe book from last year’s Great British Bake Off finalist Luis Troyano!
Luis and I have the same agent and I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him before. He really is the loveliest, most genuine guy and truly a phenomenal baker! His Spanish doughnuts are so delicious & so different and they are also a favourite of the delightful Chetna Makan, who was trying to stop people eating them, so that she could have them all! In fact I got to chat to lots of GBBO favourites and they were all as brilliantly charming as you would hope:
And I had my book signed by Luis! I can’t wait to start baking from it soon and you can buy your own copy here.
So now I’m into my busiest time of the year!!
I have lots of new recipes, including this one:
And I have lots of demos coming up including delicious demonstrations at this year’s BBC Good Food Bakes and Cakes Show, 13 – 15 November.
